The Higurashi visual novel is divided into 8 chapters, each one covering an individual time loop. Out of those 8 chapters, they're divided into two parts, the first four going under the common title 'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni' and the final four under 'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai'.

Now note that these are NOT divided in the same way as the anime adaptations of the same name, as the first anime season actually covered all the way to chapter 6 of the VN, and the 2nd season (named Kai) only covered 7 and 8.As far the playing order goes, just follow this chapter order:1. Matsuribayashi-hen.where the first four are the Higurashi arcs and the last four are the Higurashi Kai arcs, if that makes any sense. You don't need to bother with remakes, however there is a patch which transfers over the sprites from the PS2 port over to the original PC version, and you.really. want to apply this patch as the original sprites of the game looked absolutely cringeworthy. The title of the game was 'higurashi no naku koro ni kizuna' is it some arc that is apart from those chapters or is it within.Did I make any sense?

Hope I did, sorry:(Kizuna is a Nintendo DS remake of the game, it has different names for its volumes but they're basically just collections of the same chapters as the original. As far as I know there is some new side story chapter included as well but that's not part of the main story.Furthermore the DS versions aren't translated anyway.
