Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop Services License Crack Average ratng: 7,4/10 8455 reviews

Hi I have a Windows 2008 Foundation server running on a HP ProLiant ML 115. I want to be able to use the server as a terminal server and I have purchased some Windows 2008 terminal services client access licenses (CALs), MS product number X14-52739 (HP Branded product 46753-B21). The server is a member of a Windows 2003 SBS domain, I have installed the Terminal Services Licensing Manager on the Foundation server and the discovery scope is forest wide. When I go to install the TS CALs through the automatic connection to the MS clearance house, I receive an error, The serial number is not valid. I have tried to install the licenses through a web browser and also via telephone, however the license team are telling me the license code I have is invalid.

As a test I have tried to install the TS CAL license I have on a Windows 2008 Standard server through the web browser installation method and goes through the motions to install the license ok. So the TS CAL license code I have is ok, but just won't activate / install on a Windows 2008 Foundation server. As an another test, I have tried to install some 2008 TS CALs supplied through our Microsoft Partner Program, however these will also not activate / install on the Windows 2008 Foundation server.

Server

Has anyone else had this problem, or know if there are different TS CALs available for Windows 2008 Foundation server? Paul, Foundation Server has RDS functionality (per Microsoft documentation: ), so that is good. Have you tried installing the license server on another machine and then installing the CALs?

How about calling the and having them help you? Also, I don't understand what you did here: ' As a test I have tried to install the TS CAL license I have on a Windows 2008 Standard server through the web browser installation method and goes through the motions to install the license ok' TS CALs get installed via the license server.

So how exactly did you do this test? Did you install a TS license server somewhere else and then install the TS CALs? If not, perhaps your TS CAL is not really a TS CAL, but maybe a Windows CAL?Hope this helps, Kristin L. Griffin Co-Author of the (and a SUPER BIG fan of the Microsoft RDV Team!!!). Hi Kristin Thank you for response. Unfortunately, the only server I can install the Terminal Server Licensing Manager in this environment is on the Windows 2008 foundation server.

It is not possible to install 2008 TS CALs on a Terminal Server licensing server running Windows 2003 server. As I said in my original post, I have tried to call the MS clearing house, but they say I do not have a valid TS CAL license key and won't help any further. As regards your final comment, I did install Terminal Server Licensing Manager on a Windows 2008 Standard server, activated the server, selected the option to use the Web Browser to install licenses, inputted the server ID from the Windows 2008 Standard server, filled in my details, selected to use the License Pak (Retail Purchase), then was able to put in the 2008 TS CAL license code and was able to add the TS CAL license to the list of keys to be installed. I am not able to do this on the Foundation server, as it comes back with Invalid License Code as soon as I press the add button. Hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

Paul, It sounds like you have gone through the motions to install the CALs on another 2008 Std server, but never actually punched the button to complete the process; in other words, because it was added to the 'to be installed list', which was further than you got on Foundation server, you assume the CALs are valid. Is that right? If so, then these are my thoughts: 1. You have a valid TS CAL, but foundation server does not take it.

If so then why? Can Foundation Server not actually function as a LS? I have not found documentation saying that. You don't actually have a valid code, even though it gets added to the 'to be installed' list. I would go back, add it to the 2008 Std server again and actually install it. IF that works, then I would take that to the Clearing House see if they can help you there. You can get them to at least re-issue the licenses.

If this works, then I would be interested to know so we can pursue further. If they do not install all they way, then you know you need to go back to your vendor and get them to re-issue what you need. In the meantime, I am looking for anything that states unequivocally that Foundation server cannot be a license server. The only limitations I have found are stated in the comparison guides:.

Windows

Remote Desktop Services Windows Xp

50 RDS connection limit. 50 RD Gateway connection limitHope this helps, Kristin L. Griffin Co-Author of the (and a SUPER BIG fan of the Microsoft RDV Team!!!). Hi Kristan Thank you once again for your reply.

I have managed to successfully install the 2008 TS CALs on a Windows 2008 Standard server. This proves the TS CAL is valid, however it will not install on a Windows 2008 Foundation server with a message 'The serial number is not valid'. Of course when I come to eventually install the license on the Foundation server, I will now have to get MS Clearing House to release the TS CAL, as it has now already been installed on another server.

Like you, I have been unable to find any documentation to confirm if the Windows 2008 Foundation server can be a TS license server. However, it would not be cost effective to purchase and install a Windows 2008 Standard server just to act as a TS license server for the Windows 2008 Foundation server!! As far as I can tell, it is like the server ID that the Windows 2008 Foundation server is producing in the TS license server is incorrect for the TS CALs. I have been unable to find any 2008 TS CAL product that is specifically designed for the Windows 2008 Foundation server, except for a possible HP branded product which is 2008 TS CALs for emerging markets, which of course can't be purchased in the UK. As I mentioned in my first post, I have even tried to install some 2008 TS CALs supplied through our Microsoft Partner Program, however these will also not install on the Windows 2008 Foundation server. I have tried to contact MS Clearing House on several occasions, but as soon as I give them the server ID and TS CAL license code, they tell me that the TS CAL license code is invalid, which of course I know it isn't. I will contact MS Clearing House again and see if they are prepared to re-issue the license.

Of course if I go back to the vendor to re-issue the license, I am going to be in exactly the same situation. It is like the servers at MS clearing house need to be updated to accept the server ID that the Windows 2008 Foundation server is producing in the TS license server with the 2008 TS CAL packs. I can't believe that anyone else is not having similar problems. Many thanksPaul. Paul, Now that you have successfully installed the TS CALs on a Std server, I absolutely agree with you on all points.

I would think it highly unlikely that MS would make you purchase another 2008 server just to be a license server for a RDSH implemented on Foundation Server 2008. I am going to ask the Microsoft TS Forum lead to take a look at this thread and perhaps get the licensing team to check this out. So hang tight, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this:)Hope this helps,Kristin L. GriffinCo-Author of the (and a SUPER BIG fan of the Microsoft RDV Team!!!). Hi, I have the exact same fault in the same situation. Foundation 2008 server part of a domain being used as a terminal server, and the 2008 ts licence cals will not install - invaild licence code. After 3 months of trouble shooting with microsoft, we have achieved nothing.

We have tried reinstalling the ts licencing, removed all roles and reinstalled terminal services and licencing only. Remove server from the domain. Even got a new ts cal key from Microsoft that didnt work either. When the ts cal keys are checked, they seem to be vaild, but they will not work with foundation. The lastest news was this, I cut and pasted from an email.

I've no idea what it means. We have checked and found that the TSLS is of Beta3 Version whereas the License codes being used are of WS2008.Due to this the error is coming up. I'm now runnig up a new install on a spare box just so my cllient can continue with ts as the grace period runs out tomorrow. Really crazy! Hi I have eventually managed to get this problem fixed for me through Microsoft Premier Support, 0118 909 7994. After eventually being put through to the licensing department, I read off my server ID from TS Licensing Manager and 2008 TS CAL license code, and they returned a license key pack ID which I was able to add to the server. This then installed my 5 user TS CAL.

I get the feeling that this is a workaround rather than a fix, and next time I come to install a Windows 2008 Foundation server, I think I am going to hit the same problem. Hopefully the RDV Licensing team will come up with a proper fix. Many thanks Paul.
